PhD candidates are usually employed (paid) or hold scholarships. Employed PhD candidates do not pay tuition. Scholarship candidates must have guaranteed funding sufficient for the whole PhD trajectory or meet IND minimum income requirements; for candidates starting between Jan 1 and Jul 1, 2026 the indicated living allowance requirement is €1,950/month.
