The program is fully funded: PhD students are hired by the research institute with full-employment contracts and salaries (~EUR 39,000 to EUR 42,900 gross per year as of 2025). Non-EU/EEA students pay tuition of EUR 726.72 per semester plus the students' union fee; tuition fees for recruited VBC PhD students are reimbursed by the respective institute. Positions include benefits such as health insurance, pension, accident, and unemployment insurance.
