There is no tuition fee for PhD candidates at UiO. PhD candidates do not have student status; most are employed in temporary PhD Research Fellow positions. Self-funding is generally not accepted; external funding is possible but must be approved. Living expense requirement set by UDI for 2025/2026 is NOK 166,859.
