Applicants must hold a Master degree (MSc) in a relevant field (e.g. biomedical sciences, biomedical engineering, medicine, health sciences, nutrition or movement sciences). Non-native English speakers must meet English proficiency requirements (IELTS overall ≥6.5 with each component ≥6, or TOEFL total ≥90 with minimum 20 per section). Selected candidates are invited for an intake interview; admissions are based on conducting independent research under NUTRIM supervision.

Internal PhD candidates are employed by the Faculty or Maastricht UMC+ and receive a monthly salary. External PhD candidates may be scholarship recipients or self-funded.
